Parent coaching and Tuning in to Kids

As a mum of two young children I understand firsthand that parenting brings joy and connection, and also uncertainty and hard days. Some of the most useful work I do happens with parents, and it is often the fastest way to help a child.

One-to-one parent sessions

These are practical, focused sessions for parents and caregivers, with or without your child also seeing me. We might work on responding to big emotions and meltdowns, setting up routines that hold, handling anxiety about school or separation, sibling conflict, or simply understanding what is going on for your child. Sessions are in person in Erina or by video, which many parents prefer because it can happen after bedtime.

Tuning in to Kids

Tuning in to Kids® is an evidence-based emotion coaching program for parents, developed by researchers at the University of Melbourne. It teaches parents to notice their child's emotions, to see them as opportunities for connection and teaching, and to help their child name and manage what they feel. I'm an accredited facilitator and I offer the program one-to-one and in small groups of parents over [six] sessions.

I am also accredited in Tuning in to Teens, for parents of older children, and [am completing / have completed] Tuning in to Toddlers, for parents of two- to four-year-olds. Groups run [in Erina / online] when there are enough families to start one. If you'd like to be told when the next group is running, please let me know.

Who it suits

  • Parents of children aged three to twelve, including neurodivergent children
  • Parents who feel they are constantly reacting rather than responding
  • Families where emotions run high, or where a child shuts down
  • Parents who want tools they can use tonight, not theory

Rebates

Parent sessions that are part of your child's treatment can attract a Medicare rebate under your child's Mental Health Treatment Plan [Holly to confirm how she bills parent-only sessions]. NDIS plans can often fund parent capacity-building sessions. Details are on the Fees and rebates page.
